Over the past two years I have been heavily getting into podcasts. My morning commutes were often pretty boring, spending time on the awkward London Underground where people either are glued into their phones or give you a snare whenever you look them in the eyes.. yup, Londoners for you! But after being recommend the heavily popular podcast Serial, I found a vast number of amazing creative podcasts that help get the juices flowing and my mind buzzing with new knowledge and adventures. So I’m going to share a few of my top recent podcasts you should check out.

Perspective Podcast

Scotty Russell, aka Perspective-Collective, is an incredible type artist and illustrator whose work I have become incredible fond with over the past year. His podcasts normally last around 10 to 15 minutes which is the perfect bitesize chunk of incredible motivation and experience Scotty shares to his listeners. He is without a doubt one of the most passionate creatives I have listened to and shares a lot of free, catered content regularly, weather its via the podcasts, blogs or newsletters. He shares genuine and very personal accounts of the struggles and hard work needed to make it in the creative industry, something you don’t often hear enough of for me personally. Go check out the Perspective Podcast here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/perspective-podcast/id1142986267?mt=2

Design Matters

Debbie Millman’s Design Matters Podcast may have been one of the first, if not the first design podcast, now running for over 10 years! I’d like to think everyone would have heard of Debbie, if not, you would have seen some of her work at one point in your life as she has worked on pretty much every major commercial brand in one way or another. She has interviewed the top creatives in the industry, past and present, from the likes of the late great Massimo Vignelli to the present legend of design Stefan Sagmeister, and the collection is scattered with powerful interviews you absolutely must listen to. You can check out Design Matters here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/design-matters-with-debbie-millman/id328074695?mt=2

The Chase Jarvis Show

Chase Jarvis is a world famous photographer and started up the amazing platform Creative Live, which provides tutorials and talks from artists and creators from many disciplines. His podcast, similar to Debbie Millman’s features some of the best in the industry along with some actors and artists from other mediums of the creative world. You get a long in-depth view into the works and thinking behind the best of the best, along with Chases articulated way of getting the most out of his interviewees. He put together a lovely little series called 30 days of genius bringing in 30 different artists and creators from Jared Leto to Richard Branson and so many more top performers. You can check out the podcast over here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-chase-jarvis-live-show/id1127915772?mt=2

Grey Scale Gorilla Podcast

If you are a digital designer, I am sure you have come across Grey Scale Gorilla at least at one point in your career. The powerhouse platform set up by Nick Vegas many moons ago has been delivering high quality tutorials for free, along with plugins and tools for 3D and Motion Design. The podcast which originally started as Nick interviewing numerous creatives from the industry has now formed into a table talk type discussion with the fellow speakers from the site. The weekly podcasts are a great way to keep informed in all things 3D and motion design related, and you get to hear those burning questions that all creatives need to know from three experienced creatives such as, how to charge the right amount, when to ask for a promotion, the difference between freelance and full time work, etc. You can check out the podcast here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/greyscalegorilla-podcast/id433976980?mt=2

Criminal

Whenever I do these round ups, I want to throw in a random podcast of my liking that I hope some of you may be interested in listening into. Criminal is hosted by the lovely Phoebe Judge who takes us on a gripping adventure from episode to episode all to hear some strange and interesting criminal cases from all around the world. Its definitely filled the void of Serial, and I assure you some episodes will have you glued in, so much so that I may or may not have missed my train stop.. a few times… You can check it out here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/criminal/id809264944?mt=2

Just one last thought, if you are just getting podcasts iTunes is a good app to use for free, but I personally love Pocket Casts, which is free also but only a one of fee of $9 if you want the web version as well, its a cleaner more well designed app for my liking so make sure to check it out: www.play.pocketcasts.com

As always thats it for now, you can have a look over my work here. And pop over to my social networks too to see what I am posting on Twitter, and Instagram. Oh and don’t forgot, if you like this post give it a recommendation by hitting the heart icon and give me a follow to stay up to date with future stuff! Now get out there and keep creating!
